Areo takes stock of the first stage of the DNU project – section S1.

Almost two years after Areo started work on DNU – The New University Hospital in Skejby, we are ready to take stock. These days, it’s handover time for Section S1 – a four-storey laboratory building. Areo has spoken to both the material supplier on the project – BASF A/S and the main contractor – JFP A/S about their experiences, cooperation, quality and, not least, results.

Project progress from BASF A/S’s perspective: Segment manager Gert Røjkjær from BASF A/S has now been involved in the project for almost five years – ever since the possibility of using jointless flooring instead of traditional paving materials emerged. And these are typically the rail products engineers and consultants consider as first choice, unless you bring something else to the “track”. “When the advisory group and engineers were presented with all the advantages of a joint-free solution – in this case a PU floor – there was no doubt about which type of floor was preferred”, Gert Røjkjær continues: “It was the great freedom of color and endless color possibilities that attracted the architects and the crack-bridging properties that attracted the engineers. Other benefits include soundproofing, and cleaning is smooth and painless, with no annoying joints and seams.”says Gert Røjkjær.

“This is not the first time BASF A/S has worked on a project with Areo. One of the most important aspects of our cooperation at DNU was (and still is) planning. And many start-up meetings. It was also extremely important to test the product and find the right “recipe”, said Gert Røjkjær. Indeed, Areo tested the coating on a small area at DNU before it was laid on thousands of square meters. BASF A/S has also organized extra training to prepare the floor installers in the best possible way, as Areo does not want to leave anything to chance. Gert Røjkjær is very satisfied with the PU flooring at DNU, which he describes as “top, top class”. At the same time, he looks forward to the good results with PU flooring at DNU leading to more successful joint projects.

Simon No Johansen, project manager at JFP A/S, main contractor on DNU S1, describes the project as follows: Areo has done a great deal of work on DNU S1 as executing contractor on subfloors, upper floors and moldings, with the upper floor part under its own auspices, the rest with subcontractors. Simon No Johansen is particularly pleased with “the upper floors – the so-called seamless floors mainly consisting of PU, which Areo has done very well. The permanent floor installers on site have been very cooperative, solution-oriented and our collaboration was very constructive. I am happy with the overall result of the flooring work and think that the floors and subfloors are very nice and the level of finish is good”.
