Project description

The House of Natural Sciences in Bjerringbro.

Floor requirements: The House of Natural Sciences is a development and visitor center. A national laboratory with the ambition to strengthen the interest in science and technology for children and young people through challenging activities. Based on a local initiative, the House has been developed as a local/national project in cooperation with, among others Realdania, Bjerringbro Municipality, Grundfos and Poul Due Jensen Foundation.

The house shows new aspects of the relationship between the built environment and the interaction between science, interdisciplinarity, pedagogy and architecture. Many visitors and scientific experiments have placed high demands on the durability of the floor. Overall, the architecture emphasizes simplicity, unity and robustness of the floor in a natural and raw way to create spaces that together provide the best possible framework for the development of science education.

Cement-based coatings – concrete-looking, raw and rough or soft as silk, are often the interior design solution chosen by multinationals, retail chains, hotels and restaurants to build brands and strengthen their image. They are all functional and discreet to accentuate the interior rather than steal the spotlight.

Areo Plano Design is a through-colored, cementitious wearing course. The coating is durable, unique and easy to maintain. Areo Plano Design was chosen for its raw appearance to support the idea of raising interest in science.
